Mike Bourgeault has been interested in photography since he started playing with his mother's SLR film camera as a child. Being that he didn't exactly have permission to use it, he spent the time learning how to operate the camera without the benefit of film.
16 years later Mike finally got a camera of his own. Starting with a modest point and shoot digital, he began playing with exposure and composition, shooting whatever he could from any angles possible.
Mike describes his work as a way to "...view the world around me in a different light. There is a lot of beauty ingrained in our surroundings, but we don't often take the time to notice. When I shoot I slow down and pay attention to smaller details. Photography gives the bonus of being able to share what I have seen with others."
Though he is new to photography, Mike has been busy. Based in London, Ontario, his work can be seen hanging anywhere from living rooms to law offices. He has been featured in Artscape magazine, and his live performance shots have been published in Folk Prints, the quarterly magazine of The Ontario Council of Folk Festivals. His work has also been used on various record sleeves as well as on Canadian musican Joel Plaskett's official website. He has recently had one of his images published in Maclean's Magazine (Febuary 8th Issue).
